Oklahoma is getting an upgrade. On February 17, 2026, Service Oklahoma launches a modernized platform that brings driver license and motor vehicle services together, reducing wait times, simplifying online access and strengthening identity protections for all Oklahomans.

Oklahoma’s redesigned Driver License and State ID card feature enhanced protections that help reduce fraud, prevent duplicates and safeguard your identity. Your current credential remains valid until it expires, and you’ll receive the new design when you renew or replace your card.

Planned Service Pause

 

To complete this upgrade, services will temporarily be unavailable according to the following schedule:

 

Online Services:

  • OkCARS transactions requiring payment will be unavailable beginning Tuesday, Feb. 10, at 7 p.m.
  • All online services will be offline beginning Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 5 p.m. through Monday, Feb. 16.

In-Person Services:

  • All Service Oklahoma and licensed operator locations will be closed Thursday, Feb. 12, through Sunday, Feb. 15.
  • Select Service locations and licensed operator locations will be open by appointment only on Presidents Day (Monday, Feb. 16) from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. for driver license and motor vehicle transactions.

Full services resume Tuesday, Feb. 17.

  • Your data stays secure. Your personal information is maintained by Service Oklahoma and is not shared with any federal agencies. Oklahoma uses standard identity-verification safeguards to help prevent fraud and ensure individuals hold only one valid credential, protecting your identity and public safety.
  • Your security. Our platform uses advanced encryption and multi-layer security protocols. The new credential includes tamper-resistant features that help prevent counterfeiting and fraud.

Oklahoma’s redesigned Driver License and State ID card feature modern security technology and celebrates Oklahoma’s heritage.

·  100% polycarbonate material that resists cracking, bending, peeling, and tampering

·  Laser-engraved portrait that's extremely difficult to alter or forge

·  Animated secondary photo with text that changes based on viewing angle

·  UV-visible imagery and microprinting of all 77 Oklahoma county names

The design celebrates Oklahoma’s natural beauty, culture, and pride by featuring iconic Oklahoma symbols, including the North American bison, scissor-tailed flycatcher, rolling prairie and the redbud tree.

Service Oklahoma was created in 2022 to make government services simpler, faster and more customer-focused. This modernization, known as Project BOOST (Bringing Our Operations and Services Together) delivers on that promise by bringing driver license and motor vehicle services together in one platform for the first time.

The new platform and credential launch Tuesday, February 17, 2026.

Yes. There will be a short, planned service pause. Online services will be offline from Wednesday, Feb. 11, through Monday, Feb. 16. In-person locations will be closed Thursday, Feb. 12, through Sunday, Feb. 15, with limited appointment-only service available Monday, Feb. 16. Full services resume Tuesday, Feb. 17. 

We encourage you to renew online or visit a Service Oklahoma or licensed operator location before Feb. 11 or once full services resume Feb. 17.

In-person services will be faster, more efficient and more reliable with our modernized system. Customers will spend less time on paperwork, benefit from a more stable and secure platform and experience smoother transactions, including electronic signatures and automatic license reinstatements when requirements are met.

Navigate is a new, modern platform that brings driver license and motor vehicle services together in one place. It allows customers to securely save information across services and access features that were not available in OkCARS. Transactions completed before the system closure will be processed as normal and on the standard timeline.


New Credential

Yes, Service Oklahoma is introducing a redesigned Driver License and State ID card with enhanced security features.

Oklahoma has upgraded its credentials to help prevent fraud, enhance security and align with national identity protection standards, including regular redesigns every 8 to 10 years to combat counterfeiting and strengthen credential integrity. These updates support faster and more reliable identity verification during everyday activities such as traveling, banking and accessing other services.

Yes. The new credentials are produced using 100% polycarbonate, a highly durable material that makes the card resistant to cracking, bending, peeling and other physical damage common with older cards.

No. Your current credential remains valid until it expires. You’ll receive the new design when you renew or replace your card.

Yes. Oklahomans may choose either a REAL ID-compliant credential or a non-compliant Driver License or State ID.

Standard identity verification documents are required to apply for a new credential including the following. See our Required Documents form for a full list of documents needed for the services you’re seeking.

  •        Proof of identity
  •        Proof of lawful presence
  •        Proof of Social Security number
  •        Driver Education Completion Certificate (if applicable)
  •        Name change documents (if applicable)
  •        Two proofs of Oklahoma residency (if applying for a REAL ID)

No. There are no additional fees for the new credential. Standard fees for renewal, replacement, or a new credential still apply.

  • If your credential is expired or within one year of expiring, your new credential will be issued with a full renewal term (four or eight years, depending on selection), starting from your current expiration date.
  • If your credential expires more than one year in the future, you may still receive the new card, but your expiration date will not change.

Privacy & Security

Service Oklahoma uses advanced encryption and multi-layer security protocols. The new credential includes tamper-resistant features that make counterfeiting extremely difficult.

No. Oklahomans can choose between a REAL ID-compliant credential, or a non-compliant Driver License or State ID. REAL ID is required only for boarding domestic flights and entering certain federal facilities.

No. Your information is maintained by Service Oklahoma and is not shared with federal agencies.
