Drummond fires back at governor over Medicaid audit request

Wednesday, May 20, 2026

OKLAHOMA CITY (May 20, 2026) – Attorney General Gentner Drummond today responded to Governor Kevin Stitt's attempt to block an independent audit of the state agency responsible for overseeing Oklahoma's Medicaid program.

"The governor and OHCA, which is responsible for overseeing Oklahoma's Medicaid program, have chosen to defend the insurance companies rather than the people they serve. This is not the Medicaid accountability President Trump is calling for, and it is not the accountability Oklahomans deserve. In fact, Oklahoma leads the nation in Medicaid fraud enforcement, and I will be meeting with Vice President JD Vance next week to discuss our state's success.

"The people of Oklahoma have every right to know whether their tax dollars have paid for gender-transition drugs and surgeries, including for minors, yet the governor would rather protect the system than scrutinize it. Instead of providing answers, the governor is telling Oklahomans to stop asking questions. I will leave the public to draw its own conclusions about why the governor is so determined to keep them from learning the truth."
