Oklahoma House advances government transparency legislation

Wednesday, March 26, 2025

OKLAHOMA CITY (March 26, 2025) – Attorney General Gentner Drummond praised the Oklahoma House for passing House Bill 2163, a critical piece of legislation aimed at strengthening government transparency and public access to information.

The bill, authored by Rep. John Pfeiffer and Sen. Brent Howard, would establish a Public Access Counselor unit within the Office of the Attorney General to review and address public records request complaints. The legislation would empower the Public Access Counselor to investigate violations of open records and open meetings regulations.

“I am grateful to the House members for their leadership in passing this important transparency measure,” Drummond said. “Oklahomans have a right to know how their hard-earned tax dollars are being spent and what their elected officials are doing to improve their lives.”

Approved yesterday on an 80-9 vote, HB 2163 now moves to the Senate for consideration.
