Nominations now open for Attorney General’s 2025 Officer of the Year

Thursday, April 03, 2025

OKLAHOMA CITY (April 3, 2025)  Attorney General Gentner Drummond announced today that nominations are now being accepted for the 2025 Officer of the Year Awards program. Law enforcement supervisors across Oklahoma are invited to submit nominations for outstanding officers who have demonstrated exceptional service and dedication.

A statewide award winner and four regional award winners will be recognized at a special ceremony to be held in November.

"The brave men and women of Oklahoma law enforcement put their lives on the line every day to ensure the safety and security of our communities," said Drummond. "These awards provide an opportunity to honor their commitment, sacrifice and exemplary service. I am proud to continue this tradition of recognizing the heroes who protect the people of Oklahoma."

Officers serving in all Oklahoma law enforcement agencies -- including college, university, municipal, county, state, tribal and federal agencies -- are eligible. To qualify, officers must have performed admirably in the line of duty within the last 18 months.

Regional winners will be selected by judging panels composed of city, county, tribal and state criminal justice professionals. The state Officer of the Year will be chosen from among the regional winners by the Office of the Attorney General.

This is the second year for the awards. Bryan County Sheriff’s Deputy Austin Murray was named the 2024 Officer of the Year. 2024 regional winners were Oklahoma City Police Detective Lauren Cunningham (Northwest Region), Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Derek Fry (Northeast Region) and Master Police Officer Benjamin Gomez of the Norman Police Department (Southwest Region).

Supervisors can nominate deserving officers by visiting the Officer of the Year webpage. All nominations must be submitted by June 30.
