Attorney General Drummond comments on St. Isidore filing

Monday, October 07, 2024

OKLAHOMA CITY (Oct. 7, 2024) - Attorney General Gentner Drummond made the following remarks today after the Statewide Charter School Board filed a petition asking the U.S. Supreme Court to consider its case.

Drummond filed a lawsuit in October 2023 contesting the Statewide Charter School Board's contract with St. Isidore of Seville Catholic Virtual Charter School. In June, the Oklahoma Supreme Court ruled against allowing what would have been the nation’s first taxpayer-funded, state-sponsored religious public charter school. A similar petition from St. Isidore is expected later today.

“I will continue to vigorously defend the religious liberty of all four million Oklahomans. This unconstitutional scheme to create the nation’s first state-sponsored religious charter school will open the floodgates and force taxpayers to fund all manner of religious indoctrination, including radical Islam or even the Church of Satan. My fellow Oklahomans can rest assured that I will always fight to protect their God-given rights and uphold the law.”
