2025 Oklahoma Book Awards: Celebrating Notable Books + Authors

Oklahoma Book Awards

The 36th annual Oklahoma Book Awards ceremony was held on May 16 at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City. The event celebrates outstanding works by Oklahoma writers, illustrators, designers, photographers, and publishers. Winners were announced across multiple categories, and attendees heard from this year’s Arrell Gibson Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, Mike Wimmer.

Books are recognized each year for excellence in fiction, nonfiction, children’s and young adult literature, poetry, and the design/illustration/photography category. To be eligible for consideration, books must be written by an Oklahoman, about the state, or feature an Oklahoma theme.

The Oklahoma Center for the Book (OCB) has partnered with the non-profit Friends of the Oklahoma Center for the Book for more than 30 years to co-sponsor the annual Oklahoma Book Awards.

The OCB, located in the Oklahoma Department of Libraries, is affiliated with the National Center for the Book in the Library of Congress.

The Center’s mission is to promote Oklahoma authors, celebrate the state’s literary heritage, encourage reading for pleasure by Oklahomans.
