2026 Read Across Oklahoma
Applications are now open for Read Across Oklahoma, the state’s premiere literacy event for preschool and early-grade children. The 2026 celebration will take place Thursday, March 26, 2026, from 9:00am to 1:00pm at the Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden.
This year’s theme is America250: Telling America’s Stories, celebrating our nation’s history and the stories that shaped it. This year’s featured book is Will Rogers and His Great Presidential Pals by Bart Taylor, a fun introduction to American leaders through the wit and wisdom of Oklahoma’s own Will Rogers.
Kindergarten teachers: Apply now for a chance to bring your class as special guests at the live event. Applications are due January 16.
Selected classes will receive:
Free Zoo admission for students plus two teachers
Provided lunches for students plus two teachers
Free books for the entire class
Access to the live author reading and performance
Opportunities to explore animal exhibits and participate in themed literacy activities
Schools are responsible for providing their own transportation.
The event is also open to the public with the purchase of regular Zoo admission. The first 1,500 children who enter the Zoo that day will receive a free book, while supplies last.
