Providing Prevention, Learning, Understanding and Support

The WIC PLUS program integrates children’s developmental and educational services into County Health Department WIC clinics. A Child Development Specialist (CDS) and WIC nurse partner together to provide more complete care for families.

By integrating Child Development services into a WIC clinic, Child Development Specialists help to provide a strong foundation for children, promote early literacy skills, help to increase Protective Factors, help parents access community resources, and focus on appropriate developmental skills.

WIC PLUS provides services to families with children birth through age 5 years.

Any family participating in the WIC program can enroll in WIC PLUS. All children enrolled in WIC PLUS will receive a new book at each visit through the REACH OUT and READ Program to promote early literacy skills.
