Oklahoma Health Equity Campaign Meeting to Highlight Health Literacy Month

The Oklahoma State Health Department (OSDH) will host the next Oklahoma Health Equity Campaign (OHEC) meeting at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 26, at the OSDH Central Office. The meeting provides OHEC an opportunity to interact with state and local partners to highlight community health initiatives in which they are involved.
This month’s meeting will focus on activities surrounding Health Literacy Month.
Featured speaker will be Susan Gay, who serves as a public health training coordinator for the Southern Plains Tribal Health Board. She is a graduate of the University of the West Indies – Cave Hill Campus and the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). She earned a master’s degree in community health education from UAB, and is also a certified health education specialist (CHES).  Her presentation is called, “Creating a Culture of Health Literacy."
Ida Fay Winters of Great Plains Literacy Council, Jasmine Shumaker of Moore Public Library and Leslie Gelders of the Adult Literacy Office, Oklahoma Department of Libraries will report on collaborative community efforts to address health literacy.
