Services
Specially trained professionals provide a number of services to families. These services include home visits, parent support groups and parent education. For the parent's convenience, these services can be provided in local centers as well as in the home. Professionals are prepared to answer questions and provide guidance that will promote the health, safety and development of the child. Parents as Teachers services are free to all eligible families.
The following services are provided through the Parents as Teachers program:
- Child development evaluations
- Referrals to community resources such as job training and child care
- Transportation (including bus passes or transportation vouchers) to and from necessary appointments
Home Visits
Professionals come to the parents' home and provide parenting information and provide child development evaluations. Families may benefit from home-based parenting services until the child completes kindergarten.
Group Connections
Group Connections meet at local sites and are led by professionals who offer parents a variety of information. Things discussed may include:
- Health and nutrition
- Parenting skills
- Child development
- Safety
