Sexual Risk Avoidance Education
The Oklahoma Sexual Risk Avoidance Education (SRAE) grant program works with community partners to implement education on sexual risk avoidance that teaches youth to voluntarily refrain from sexual activity. The aim of this program is to teach youth personal responsibility, self-regulation, goal setting, healthy decision-making, a focus on the future, and the prevention of youth risk behaviors such as drug and alcohol use.
Sexual Health Awareness Month
September is Sexual Health Awareness Month, a time to focus on a topic that affects everyone but is often avoided or silenced. The Oklahoma SRAE program believes knowledge is power and supports awareness by providing evidence based medically accurate information.
Let's Talk Month
October is Let’s Talk Month. During Let’s Talk Month parents and caregivers are encouraged to communicate with their youth about sexual behavior, healthy relationships, expectations, refusal skills, preventing pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases, body image, and goal setting for the future. Although these topics can be difficult to approach, studies show that parents/caregivers are the biggest influence in a young person’s life when it comes to sex.
