You can drive between 5:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. while accompanied by a licensed driver at least 21 years old
You must be enrolled and receiving instruction in an approved Service Oklahoma Driver Education course and pass the Oklahoma Written Exam.
You must pass the Oklahoma Written Exam.
Driver Education is optional if you are 16 years or older.
The written exam is a 20-question test that will test you on Oklahoma traffic laws, road rules, road signs, and safe driving practices.
Your vision test will be administered during your visit. Written tests can be taken at a Service Oklahoma location.
Note
If you are 16 years old or older, Driver Education is optional. If you have completed Driver Education, please bring the documentation to waive the written test.
To take the written test before turning 16 using parent-taught driver education, you must have the Parent-Taught Affidavit approval number and proof of purchase from the Parent Taught Program provider.
Parent-Taught Driver Education does not qualify to waive the written test.
If you pass the written and vision tests, you will given a temporary paper permit to use until you receive your Learner Permit in the mail.
If you do not pass the written test, there will be a $4.00 fee added to the issuance fee for each failed test that can be paid upon passing.
Note
There is a $25.00 fee associated with tests taken at Career Tech Testing Centers and the applicant will still have to visit a Service Oklahoma Licensing Office for the vision test and to be issued the permit.
Once you receive your permit, but before taking the drive test and graduating to an intermediate license, you must:
