About the Course
The Breastfeeding Educator Workshop is designed to prepare nurses, childbirth educators, nutritionists and other health care providers to manage early breastfeeding issues with accuracy and confidence based on the AAP guidelines for the promotion, protection, and support of breastfeeding. Care strategies to support exclusive breast milk feeding during the hospital stay are emphasized. Workshop sessions are based on the course topic list provided by the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative for the U.S. This course has been approved for 14 CERPS by the International Board of Lactation Examiners.
The Breastfeeding Educator Course is scheduled for June 13-14, 2023. The class times are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM both days. The training will be held at Castle Falls located at 820 MacArthur Blvd. Oklahoma City 37127.
This course is approved for OSDH staff, independent WIC staff, and Tribal WIC staff only.
About the Facilitator
Glenda Dickerson, MSN, RN, IBCLC, is the Women’s Support Services Manager at Brookwood Women’s Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama. Glenda has 35 years experience in Maternal Infant Nursing with over 20 of those years in lactation counseling. Glenda was instrumental in the formation of the first outpatient Lactation Center in Alabama in 1990. She served as the President of the Alabama Breastfeeding Coalition (ABC) 1999 through 2001. She is the founding President of the United States Lactation Consultant Association (USLCA). Glenda currently serves on the board of the Alabama Lactation Consultant Association (ALCA) as Director of Membership. She currently serves as Board Chair of the Breastfeeding Education Support Team of Jefferson County.
