State Initiative Aims to Enhance Historical Understanding in Civic Education
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK — Today, under the directive of State Superintendent Ryan Walters, the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) is distributing Bibles to every AP U.S. Government classroom across the state. This initiative begins today and aims to equip educators with additional historical context for teaching the foundations of American governance.
"Students need to understand the foundation of American History," said Superintendent Walters. "That’s the Bible, the Constitution, and The Declaration of Independence."
The Bibles will be integrated into classroom instruction, and educators will have the option to use the materials as supplementary content to illustrate the influence of religious texts on American law and civic thought.
This move aligns with OSDE's broader commitment to strengthening civic education and fostering a comprehensive understanding of America’s heritage. Distribution begins immediately, ensuring classrooms are equipped without delays.
