Oklahoma City, Okla – State Superintendent Ryan Waters praised Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS) Superintendent Dr. Jamie Polk for implementing the Oklahoma Teacher Empowerment Program (OTEP) thereby introducing merit pay for OKCPS teachers. This innovative program underscores Oklahoma’s commitment to fostering an education system where exceptional teaching is recognized, rewarded, and celebrated.

rewarding high-performing educators, we will attract and retain top-tier talent in our classrooms while driving significant improvements in student outcomes,” said Walters. “I commend Dr. Polk for her vision and leadership. In implementing the Oklahoma Teacher
Empowerment Program, she has helped ensure her teachers are eligible for substantial raises.”
Program participants will lead professional development efforts for emergency-certified teachers in test preparation and other district-developed topics. Additionally, they will:
- Conduct training for emergency-certified teachers preparing for certification tests
- Attend professional development sessions
- Develop curriculum in collaboration with district teams
- Conduct high intensity tutoring for targeted students
- Preparation of emergency-certified teachers based on district pacing guides
33 OKCPS teachers are participating in the program, totaling $211,500 in additional money directly into their pockets.
