Supt. Walters welcomes children back to the classroom with parents back in control

Oklahoma City, OK – As students return to classrooms across Oklahoma, OSDE is proud to highlight a year of historic education reforms that put parents back in charge, strengthen academic standards, and roll back unnecessary federal mandates.

Over the past year, Oklahoma has worked to restore America’s foundations in education by updating history standards to reflect the Bible’s historical significance and its influence on the founding of our nation. By prioritizing transparency and leading, the country in school choice measures parents have a stronger voice than ever before with their child’s education. Outdated federal end-of-year testing requirements have been replaced with benchmark assessments that better measure student progress, and schools are being directed to put more dollars into the classroom while cutting unnecessary administrative costs. We have also been recruiting the best America First teachers, certifying over 4,000 new educators who are committed to putting students before woke politics, and our summer learning programs have been a tremendous success.

“President Trump has made it clear, education should be driven by parents, local communities, and common sense, not federal bureaucrats,” said Walters. “In Oklahoma, we are delivering on that promise and setting the standard for the rest of the country.”

In Oklahoma, we remain committed to protecting parents, rights, religious freedom, and President Trump’s America first agenda.
