OKLAHOMA CITY, OK — In a decisive legal victory, Oklahoma Superintendent Ryan Walters successfully defended against a defamation lawsuit filed by former Norman High School teacher Summer Boismier. Today, the court ruled in favor of Walters, affirming his position and protecting parental rights and maintaining educational integrity in Oklahoma schools.

The lawsuit, which was filed by Boismier after Walters publicly called for the revocation of her teaching credentials, granted a motion for summary judgment. Boismier had claimed defamation

in response to Walters’ remarks regarding her actions in displaying a QR code in her classroom that led students to a site promoting access to banned books.

"This is a monumental win for parents, students, and the integrity of our education system," said Walters. "We have sent a clear message that Oklahoma’s schools will remain free from political indoctrination and that our children deserve an education that is focused on core academic
values, not the promotion of controversial ideologies."

The lawsuit stemmed from Boismier’s decision to display a QR code in her classroom that directed students to the Brooklyn Public Library’s Books Unbanned project. The incident raised concerns among parents and education officials, particularly in the context of Oklahoma’s HB 1775 law, which restricts certain teachings on race and gender in public schools and aims to ensure that educational content aligns with parental expectations.

Walters, who has been a staunch advocate for parental rights in education, issued a call for Boismier’s teaching certification to be reviewed following the incident.

This legal win marks a major step in Oklahoma’s broader effort to return schools to parents and safeguard children from ideological manipulation. The case highlights the ongoing battle across the nation to preserve educational spaces that are free from political agendas and focused on academic growth.
