Arthritis Program

The purpose of the arthritis program is to increase availability and accessibility of arthritis appropriate evidence-based interventions (AAEBIs) and to provide arthritis-related health information. The two AAEBIs we are providing to Oklahomans are Tai Chi: Moving for Better Balance and Walk with Ease. The expected outcomes of incorporating physical activity and education are increased physical activity, reduced pain, improved function, reduced arthritis progression, and enhanced self-management behaviors. Courses are offered at no cost.

The current prevalence of arthritis in Oklahoma is 30% or 901,000 of the population with about half of those individuals reporting arthritis-attributable activity limitations.

To promote these two AAEBIs, we partnered with several divisions of the Oklahoma State Department of Health and community organizations. These partnerships focus on expanding availability of lifestyle management programs throughout Oklahoma including rural and underserved parts of the state.

We hope you will join us on our journey to reduce arthritis-related symptoms and create a healthier Oklahoma. Check out where these classes are offered, ask a friend to participate with you and start enjoying a more active lifestyle.
