Service Oklahoma Launches the REAL ID Tracker and Countdown Timer
Oklahomans can now stay up-to-date on the number of REAL IDs in real-time.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 1, 2024
OKLAHOMA CITY – Service Oklahoma is excited to announce the launch of the REAL ID Tracker which has been added as a feature to its website. The REAL ID Tracker was created to keep Oklahomans regularly updated on the status of the number of REAL IDs in the state as the federal enforcement date draws near.
With less than one year remaining until the REAL ID federal mandate deadline for citizens to get a REAL ID, more than 1.8 million REAL IDs have been issued in Oklahoma and around 40,000 are currently being added each month.
The Oklahoma REAL ID Tracker shows a real-time estimate of how many REAL IDs have been added throughout the week, while also featuring a timer that keeps track of the days, hours, minutes and seconds left until the federal REAL ID deadline on May 7, 2025.
After May 7, 2025, a REAL ID or other form of federal identification, like a passport, is needed to board domestic flights, visit military bases or gain access to certain federal facilities. While not required, Oklahomans may wish to apply for a REAL ID to avoid any disruptions to their travel plans or access to essential government facilities.
Service Oklahoma is dedicated to assisting Oklahomans who wish to obtain their REAL IDs and have made the process quick and efficient. Citizens can conveniently visit any of the 270 locations across the state to get their REAL ID.
“Now is a great time to apply for a REAL ID,” said Jay Doyle, Chief Executive Officer of Service Oklahoma. “We encourage those wanting to be REAL ID compliant to prepare for their visit by using our REAL ID Checklist located on our website to view documents they will need and check current location wait times. Oklahomans can also go to their nearest licensed operator to get their REAL ID.”

REAL ID Act and Oklahoma REAL ID Stats
The REAL ID Act, passed by Congress in 2005, establishes the minimum-security standards for state-issued driver licenses and identification cards for all U.S. states and territories. These standards include documentation requirements and enhanced security features, making REAL IDs more resistant to tampering and fraud and allow for the sharing of information between states. While some states began issuing as early as 2010, all 50 states, including Oklahoma, began issuing REAL IDs in 2020.
REAL ID Stats:
- 1,829,335 Oklahoma REAL IDs issued as of Sept. 1, 2024.
- 2,310,013 Oklahomans with non-REAL ID credentials as of Sept. 1, 2024.
- By the May 7, 2025 deadline, Service Oklahoma estimates around 60% of Oklahomans will be REAL ID compliant, aligning with the current national compliance rate.
- 270 locations statewide including Service Oklahoma Licensing and Exam and licensed operator locations can issue REAL IDs.
