The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has no reason to believe Bristow’s drinking water is unsafe. DEQ staff recently visited Bristow to inspect the town’s drinking water wells and talk to local officials. Based on the inspection, DEQ found no indication of a drinking water safety concern in Bristow.

This notification follows concerns raised after a boil order was recently issued for the Town of Slick, which purchases water from Bristow. DEQ understands that a boil order in a neighboring community can raise questions for residents who receive water from the same system.

All public water supply systems in Oklahoma are required to routinely monitor water for a variety of potential contaminants and other indicators to help ensure drinking water meets state and federal health-based standards. These monitoring requirements are an important part of protecting public health and ensuring Oklahomans have access to safe, reliable drinking water.

At this time, the boil order for the Town of Slick remains in effect. However, DEQ has not issued any drinking water advisories or precautions for Bristow, as the agency has no reason to believe Bristow’s drinking water is unsafe. If any information becomes available which would necessitate an alert for the Bristow drinking water system, DEQ will ensure the public is notified.
