On May 15, 2025, House Bill 2085 became law, which amends the Oklahoma Uniform Building Code Commission Act. This bill, which takes effect November 1, 2025, grants the Oklahoma Uniform Building Code Commission (OUBCC) expanded responsibilities, including the authority to provide continuing education for construction industry personnel affected by the codes adopted by the Commission, including, but not limited to, code officials, design professionals, and trade workers.

- Establish a continuing education and training and certification process for code officials, design professionals, inspectors, and trade workers.
- Collect and manage fees generated from any cost directly associated with the training.

Important Clarification for License Holders
While HB2085 allows the OUBCC to provide continuing education, continuing education (CE) for license holders regulated by the Oklahoma Construction Industries Board (CIB) must be approved by a CIB Industry Committee in order to qualify for credit toward the license renewal requirements.

Any courses or training offered under the authority of HB2085, like any other continuing education provider must be submitted for CIB Industry Committee approval before licensees may claim CE credit.
Licensees are responsible for ensuring that the CE they complete has been approved by the CIB trade committee for their specific license type.
