What is a Long Range Plan?
In accordance with federal law, the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) develops the Oklahoma Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP). The Plan is a policy document that assists ODOT in providing a safe, economical, an effective transportation network for the people, commerce and communities of Oklahoma.
The LRTP helps provide a long term vision for highways, rural public transit, waterways, state-owned rail, airport access and bicycle/pedestrian facilities. It addresses goals related to safe and secure travel and tourism, infrastructure preservation, mobility choice, connectivity and accessibility, freight and economic vitality, environmental responsibility and efficient intermodal system management and operations.
Serving You.
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) is charged with the planning, designing, construction, operation and maintenance of Oklahoma’s transportation infrastructure including the non-toll interstate system, the US highway system and the state highway system along with management of the state owned railroads.
ODOT also administers a variety of other multi-modal programs including passenger rail, public transit, waterways and bicycle/pedestrian.
12,254
Miles of State Owned Highway
To fulfill our obligation to the people of Oklahoma and maintain our transportation system, ODOT oversees the 12,254 mile State Highway System, which is mostly rural in nature with urban highways and express ways in the major metropolitan areas.
6,800
State Owned Bridges
ODOT is responsible for nearly 6,800 bridges on the State Highway System. In 2004 there were 1,168 structurally deficient bridges. At the beginning of 2019 there were 132 structurally deficient bridges left on the State Highway System.
147
Miles of State Owned Railroad
An estimated 350 million tons of freight flows through the state on rail lines each year with many rail lines carrying 50 to 100 trains a day. The State of Oklahoma owns 147 miles of track; Class I (private railroad companies) own over 1,200 miles.
