Awareness Day at the Capitol

Event Goals:

  • Unite service providers, families, and community partners to raise awareness
  • Educate policymakers on the needs of children with incarcerated parents
  • Share data, personal experiences, and policy recommendations with state leaders

This event provides an opportunity to elevate awareness of the experiences of children and families affected by incarceration, encourage collaboration across partners, and share information with policymakers. A light breakfast will be provided, and attendees will have access to resource booths and opportunities to visit with legislators.

Optional Information Meetings and Legislative Education Trainings will also be offered. Virtual sessions will be held on Friday, February 20, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. (repeat sessions) for those who would like to participate in advance.

This event is made possible through a partnership with the Oklahoma Commission on Children and Youth (OCCY), the Anne and Henry Zarrow School of Social Work at the University of Oklahoma, OK Messages Project, and members of the Oklahoma Children of Incarcerated Parents (CIP) Advisory Committee.

Attendance is open, but registration is requested to support event logistics and communication.
