Office of Juvenile System Oversight

The Office of Juvenile System Oversight (OJSO) has the responsibility to investigate and report misfeasance and malfeasance within the children and youth service system, to inquire into areas of concern, and to provide independent monitoring of residential and non-residential services to children.  The OJSO is to ensure that agencies are complying with their established responsibilities, which include state and federal laws, applicable accrediting and licensing standards, policies, and procedures, and applicable court orders.

Child Death Review Board

The mission of the Oklahoma Child Death Review Board is to reduce the number of preventable deaths through a multidisciplinary approach to case review. Through case review, the Child Death Review Board collects statistical data and system failure information to develop recommendations to improve policies, procedures, and practices within and between the agencies that protect and serve the children.

Freestanding Multidisciplinary Teams

Freestanding Multidisciplinary Teams (FSMDTs) consist of professionals from prosecution (i.e., District Attorney), law enforcement, Child Welfare Services (Oklahoma Department of Human Services), medicine, mental health, domestic violence (recommended), and other related fields that promote coordination and teamwork needed to ensure a timely and appropriate response to investigations of child maltreatment. FSMDTs conduct formalized case reviews that allow team members to immediately share information and eliminate duplicate efforts.

Post Adjudication Review Boards

Post Adjudication Review Boards of Oklahoma ensure the best interests of deprived/delinquent children are being met through external citizen review, to monitor the efforts of the children services programs and make recommendations for system improvement in order to enhance the management of individual children’s cases as well as the administration of the system. As a result, children will achieve safety, stability and permanency without undue delay; enjoy continuity of relationships; and have the opportunity to develop their full potential.

Office of Planning and Coordination

The Office of Planning and Coordination (P&C) at the Oklahoma Commission on Children and Youth dedicates itself to serving and improving the lives of Oklahoma’s youth and families through joint planning and service coordination among stakeholders.
