TSET offers tips for National Move More Month and National Walking Day

OKLAHOMA CITY (March 26, 2024) Shape Your Future, a program of the Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET), is empowering all Oklahomans to participate in Move More Month in April and National Walking Day on April 3 by getting physically active with friends and family.

“With April’s warmer weather, it is a great time to move more outdoors,” said Julie Bisbee, TSET executive director. “Oklahomans can use Shape Your Future to explore new ways of staying active, breaking a sweat and making memories with the people they love.”

National Move More Month and National Walking Day, both created by the American Heart Association, encourage Americans to increase regular physical activity. Adults should get at least 30 minutes of daily physical activity while kids should get 60 minutes. Exercise improves brain health, strengthens muscles and significantly reduces the risk for obesity and chronic diseases.

Tips to start moving more this month:

  • Daily Walks: Being consistent in regular physical activity can be challenging, especially with a busy schedule. Start small with a daily walk to begin forming the healthy habit.
  • Change Up Your Routine: Take this quiz to kickstart a new healthy habit you truly enjoy. Find a new way to move based on your personality and interests!
  • Get Moving in Your Garage: Download the FREE workout guide from Shape Your Future, and break a full-body sweat without going to a gym.
