Shape Your Future promotes physical activity during National Move More Month

OKLAHOMA CITY (March 31, 2022)Shape Your Future, a program of the Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET), encourages Oklahomans to participate in the nationally recognized Move More Month by getting physically active with friends and family.

“Spring is the perfect season to get active outdoors,” said Julie Bisbee, executive director of TSET. “Research shows physically active kids are more likely to become healthy adults. Now is a great time for adults to take advantage of new opportunities to get moving and influence younger generations.”

National Move More Month was created by the American Heart Association to encourage Americans to increase their physical activity and to do so on a more regular basis. Physical activity improves brain health, strengthens muscles, including the heart, and significantly reduces the risk for obesity and chronic diseases such as diabetes.

For families looking to get active together, evening walks are a free, cheap and fun way to get moving. Families can try Shape Your Future’s download for games to play during a walk. Oklahomans can also check out the fun spring scavenger hunt. Other activities and exercise recommendations are available at ShapeYourFutureOK.com.

Those who are short on time can still work quick and easy exercises into their existing schedules. Moving more during the workday can be as simple as doing calf raises or leg lifts at the desk or taking a walk during meetings. At home, Oklahomans can follow along with Shape Your Future’s fun and helpful exercise videos.
