OKLAHOMA CITY – The Westport Utility Authority (Authority) in Pawnee County received approval for a $99,999 Rural Economic Action Plan (REAP) grant on Tuesday through the Oklahoma Water Resources Board (OWRB) to improve the Authority’s water infrastructure.

The Authority operates the town’s public water system and is taking steps to address frequent leaks, low water pressure, and service outages caused by aging, thin-walled pipes. The project will replace deteriorated main lines in the Skyview Neighborhood and upgrade lines and valves serving the community’s three water storage tanks. These improvements will enhance system reliability and service quality for local residents. The estimated cost of the project is $99,999.00 which will be funded by the OWRB REAP grant in the amount of $99,999.00.

Lori Johnson, chief of the OWRB's Financial Assistance Division, calculated that the grant will save the Authority’s customers $181,600 in principal and interest charges by not having to borrow the project funds.

“This is a much-needed investment to update Westport’s aging water system,” said Sen. Chuck Hall, R-Perry. “Upgrading the town’s deteriorating infrastructure will reduce leaks, improve water pressure and ensure residents have consistent access to clean, safe water. I’m grateful to the Oklahoma Water Resources Board for using this funding to support rural communities like Westport.”

“This water line replacement project is a meaningful investment in Westport’s future, ensuring more reliable service, fewer disruptions and stronger infrastructure for years to come,” Rep. Ty Burns, R-Pawnee, said. “I fully support this effort to address long-standing issues and improve everyday life for residents. I’m grateful to the Oklahoma Water Resources Board and COEDD for their continued commitment to rural Oklahoma.”

“We are grateful to Senator Chuck Hall and Representative Ty Burns for their continued support of water and wastewater infrastructure funding in Oklahoma,” said Julie Cunningham, OWRB Executive Director.

Since 1983 the Water Resources Board has approved over $8.2 billion in loans and grants for water and wastewater infrastructure improvements throughout Oklahoma.
