Town of Stratford Receives $99,999 Grant for Wastewater System Improvements from the OWRB
OKLAHOMA CITY – Town of Stratford (Town) in Garvin County received approval for a $99,999 Rural Economic Action Plan (REAP) grant on Tuesday through the Oklahoma Water Resources Board (OWRB) to improve the Town’s wastewater infrastructure.
The Town of Stratford operates a wastewater treatment system and is addressing critical repairs to its aging lift station, which is essential for moving wastewater through the system. The project will involve installing a new headworks, a new comminutor, repairing the wet well, and replacing pumps and piping. These upgrades will help prevent premature wear and ensure the system operates efficiently. The estimated cost of the project is $99,999.00 which will be funded by the OWRB REAP Grant of $99,999.00.
Lori Johnson, chief of the OWRB's Financial Assistance Division, calculated that the grant will save the Authority’s customers $181,600 in principal and interest charges by not having to borrow the project funds.
"I appreciate the Oklahoma Water Resource Board’s continued commitment to supporting rural communities like Stratford," Rep. Cynthia Roe said. "These improvements that will be used for our community’s wastewater treatment system are essential not only for protecting public health, but also for ensuring long-term infrastructure reliability. Rural towns like ours deserve safe, reliable infrastructure and this project will help ensure families and businesses are better served for years to come."
“We are grateful to Senator Jonathan Wingard and Representative Cynthia Roe for their continued support of water and wastewater infrastructure funding in Oklahoma,” said Julie Cunningham, OWRB Executive Director.
Since 1983 the Water Resources Board has approved over $8.2 billion in loans and grants for water and wastewater infrastructure improvements throughout Oklahoma.
