Town of North Enid Receives $81,000 Grant for Wastewater System Improvements from the OWRB
OKLAHOMA CITY – The Town of North Enid (Town) in Garfield County received approval for a $81,000 Rural Economic Action Plan (REAP) grant on Tuesday through the Oklahoma Water Resources Board (OWRB) to improve the Town’s wastewater infrastructure.
The Town’s wastewater system includes two lift stations that are not equipped with a backup power source, creating a risk of system failure during electrical outages. To ensure uninterrupted service and maintain compliance with state wastewater regulations, the proposed project will install a diesel-powered emergency generator at each lift station. These generators will allow the Town to maintain wastewater operations during power outages and avoid potential overflows or environmental impacts.
The estimated cost of the project is $81,000.00 which will be funded by the OWRB REAP Grant for $81,000.00.
Lori Johnson, chief of the OWRB's Financial Assistance Division, calculated that the grant will save the Authority’s customers $161,800 in principal and interest charges by not having to borrow the project funds.
"Ensuring the reliability of our communities' infrastructure is vital, especially when it comes to maintaining essential services like wastewater management,” said Sen. Roland Pederson, R-Burlington. “The approval and funding of this project will provide the Town of North Enid with the necessary backup power to prevent service interruptions during power outages, enhancing the resilience and operation of this critical system. I’m proud to support this $81,000 investment, which will help protect the community and ensure continuous, safe service."
"Securing a backup power supply for the North Enid sewer system will give residents great peace of mind,” said Rep. John Pfeiffer, R-Orlando. “I'm grateful for this grant to complete this project, ensuring the system can remain operational should the city experience a power outage."
“We are grateful to Senator Roland Pederson and Representative John Pfeiffer for their continued support of water and wastewater infrastructure funding in Oklahoma,” said Julie Cunningham, OWRB Executive Director.
Since 1983 the Water Resources Board has approved over $7.9 billion in loans and grants for water and wastewater infrastructure improvements throughout Oklahoma.
