The Anadarko Public Works Authority Receives $1,454,850 Water System Loan with Principal Forgiveness from the OWRB

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Anadarko Public Works Authority (Authority) received approval for a $1,454,850 loan with $800,000 in principal forgiveness on Tuesday from the Oklahoma Water Resources Board (OWRB) to improve the Authority’s water infrastructure.  Construction of upgrades and improvements to the water system will be financed by the Oklahoma Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF).

The City of Anadarko operates a water system that currently relies on a 33,000-gallon standpipe to serve the southwestern portion of the city. To improve system performance and meet growing demand, the city plans to construct a new 250,000-gallon elevated storage tank. This upgrade will increase water storage capacity, help maintain consistent water pressure, and improve water quality by reducing water age and potentially reduce disinfection byproducts through the use of a built-in mixing system. These improvements are essential to ensuring safe, reliable water service for residents and future development in the area.

Lori Johnson, chief of the OWRB’s Financial Assistance Division, calculated that the Authority’s customers will save an estimated $2,173,100 compared to traditional financing. The DWSRF loan will be secured with a lien on the revenues of the Authority’s water, sewer, sanitation, and electric services.

The Anadarko Public Works Authority’s officials attending the OWRB’s monthly meeting in support of the loan application included Utilities Manager Kim Goodin and Engineer David Wyatt. "I would appreciate your consideration for this loan,” said Goodin. “I also would like to thank you all for the great job that you all do to help the state of Oklahoma"

Julie Cunningham, Executive Director of the OWRB, and Rob Singletary, Executive Director of the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (ODEQ), express their sincere appreciation to State Senator Darcy Jech and State Representative Toni Hasenbeck for their support of the DWSRF program.

The DWSRF program is administered by the OWRB and ODEQ with partial funding from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).  The DWSRF program has provided approximately $2.4 billion in drinking water loans to provide communities with the resources necessary to maintain and improve the infrastructure that protects our valuable water resources statewide.

Since 1983, the Oklahoma Water Resources Board has approved over $8.2 billion in loans and grants for water and wastewater infrastructure improvements throughout Oklahoma.
