Pond Creek Public Works Authority Receives $99,999 Grant for Water System Improvements from the OWRB
OKLAHOMA CITY – The Pond Creek Public Works Authority (Authority) in Grant County received approval for a $99,999 Rural Economic Action Plan (REAP) grant on Tuesday through the Oklahoma Water Resources Board (OWRB) to improve the Authority’s water infrastructure.
The Authority operates a water system and is addressing a decline in water production due to the deterioration of Water Well #1. The proposed project will replace the aging well by drilling a new one next to the existing site, along with the necessary infrastructure upgrades to complete the project. This essential work will help ensure continued, reliable water service for the community. The estimate cost of the project is $120,125.00 which will be funded by the OWRB REAP Grant of $99,999.00 and local funds of $20,126.00.
Lori Johnson, chief of the OWRB's Financial Assistance Division, calculated that the grant will save the Authority’s customers $181,600 in principal and interest charges by not having to borrow the project funds.
“Investing in reliable infrastructure is fundamental to the long-term sustainability and growth of our rural communities,” Sen. Roland Pederson, R-Burlington. “I commend the partnership between local leadership and the Oklahoma Water Resources Board in securing this REAP grant, which will help to repair and enhance this community’s water infrastructure.”
"Clean and easy-to-access water is something we too often take for granted in our country,” said Rep. John Pfeiffer, R-Orlando. “I'm glad the community members of Pond Creek will soon see this upgrade to their water delivery system, and I'm grateful to the Oklahoma Water Resources Board for helping to meet this need."
“We are grateful to Senator Roland Pederson and Representative John Pfeiffer for their continued support of water and wastewater infrastructure funding in Oklahoma,” said Julie Cunningham, OWRB Executive Director.
Since 1983 the Water Resources Board has approved over $8.2 billion in loans and grants for water and wastewater infrastructure improvements throughout Oklahoma.
