Midwest City Municipal Authority Receives $219,000 Water System Funding from the OWRB

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Midwest City Municipal Authority (Authority) received approval for $219,000 in funding with 100% principal forgiveness Tuesday from the Oklahoma Water Resources Board (OWRB) to improve the Authority’s water infrastructure. Construction of upgrades and improvements to the water system will be financed by the Oklahoma Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF).

The Authority will use the funding to connect 32 homes in the Starview neighborhood to Midwest City's water distribution system. The project involves removing the homes from the Starview Public Water Supply and linking them to existing waterlines, eliminating the Starview Public Water Supply and providing residents with a reliable and safe drinking water source.

Lori Johnson, chief of the OWRB’s Financial Assistance Division, calculated that the Authority’s customers will save an estimated $346,600 compared to traditional financing.

“Without this DWSRF Principal Forgiveness Loan, Midwest City would not have been able to assist the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (ODEQ) with the recommended water system consolidation,” said Senator Brenda Stanley, R-Midwest City. “We are grateful for the support and welcome the opportunity to provide Senate District 42 constituents with next-level customer service and award-winning drinking water!”

Julie Cunningham, Executive Director of the OWRB, and Rob Singletary, Executive Director of the ODEQ, express their sincere appreciation to State Legislators from the Midwest City Metro area for their continued support of the DWSRF program.

The DWSRF program is administered by the OWRB and the ODEQ with partial funding from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The DWSRF program has provided approximately $2.4 billion in drinking water loans to provide communities with the resources necessary to maintain and improve the infrastructure that protects our valuable water resources statewide.

Since 1983, the Oklahoma Water Resources Board has approved over $7.7 billion in loans and grants for water and wastewater infrastructure improvements throughout Oklahoma.
