Lehigh Development Authority Receives $99,999 Grant for Water System Improvements from the OWRB
OKLAHOMA CITY – The Lehigh Development Authority (Authority) in Coal County received approval for a $99,999 Rural Economic Action Plan (REAP) grant on Tuesday through the Oklahoma Water Resources Board (OWRB) to improve the Authority’s water infrastructure.
The Authority operates a water distribution system that is currently experiencing water loss due to outdated and inefficient meters. The proposed project will involve the installation of 175 Automated Meter Reading (AMR) meters, which will help improve water usage tracking and reduce waste. These upgrades will enhance the accuracy and efficiency of the water system. The estimated cost of the project is $99,999.00 which will be funded by the OWRB REAP grant in the amount of $99,999.00.
Lori Johnson, chief of the OWRB's Financial Assistance Division, calculated that the grant will save the Authority’s customers $181,600 in principal and interest charges by not having to borrow the project funds.
“This investment in Lehigh’s water system will reduce loss, improve efficiency, and strengthen the reliability of service for residents,” said Sen. Jerry Alvord, R-Wilson. “I commend the Lehigh Development Authority and the Oklahoma Water Resources Board for their commitment to maintaining and modernizing essential infrastructure.”
“This funding represents a meaningful investment in Lehigh’s infrastructure,” said Rep. Ryan Eaves, R-Atoka. “Upgrading the town’s water system will not only improve service reliability but also reduce waste and strengthen long-term sustainability. I’m grateful to the OWRB and SODA for their continued commitment to supporting the needs of rural communities across Oklahoma.”
“We are grateful to Senator Jerry Alvord and Representative Ryan Eaves for their continued support of water and wastewater infrastructure funding in Oklahoma,” said Julie Cunningham, OWRB Executive Director.
Since 1983 the Water Resources Board has approved over $8.2 billion in loans and grants for water and wastewater infrastructure improvements throughout Oklahoma.
