Konawa Receives $99,999 Grant for Water System Improvements from the OWRB
OKLAHOMA CITY – Konawa (City) in Seminole County received approval for a $99,999 Rural Economic Action Plan (REAP) grant on Tuesday through the Oklahoma Water Resources Board (OWRB) to improve the City’s water infrastructure.
The City operates a water system that is currently facing compliance challenges related to water pressure and chlorine concentration levels. To address these issues, the proposed project will evaluate existing wells, drill test wells, and conduct water quality analysis to ensure compliance and improve service reliability. These improvements are essential for maintaining safe, high-quality water for the community. The estimated cost of the project is $99,999.00 which will be funded by the OWRB REAP grant in the amount of $99,999.00.
Lori Johnson, chief of the OWRB's Financial Assistance Division, calculated that the grant will save the Authority’s customers $181,600 in principal and interest charges by not having to borrow the project funds.
“These grant funds will help Konawa bring its water system back into compliance, ensuring a safe and reliable water supply for years to come,” said Sen. Grant Green, R-Wellston. “Thanks to the Oklahoma Water Resources Board for this smart investment in public health and the long-term stability of the community.”
“We are grateful to Senator Grant Green and Representative Danny Williams for their continued support of water and wastewater infrastructure funding in Oklahoma,” said Julie Cunningham, OWRB Executive Director.
Since 1983 the Water Resources Board has approved over $8.2 billion in loans and grants for water and wastewater infrastructure improvements throughout Oklahoma.
