OKLAHOMA CITY – The Adair Municipal Authority (Authority) in Mayes County received approval for a $99,500 Rural Economic Action Plan (REAP) grant on Tuesday through the Oklahoma Water Resources Board (OWRB) to improve the Authority’s wastewater infrastructure.

The Adair Municipal Authority is undertaking a critical infrastructure project to replace a deteriorating sewer line that serves the local high school, including two newly constructed buildings. Originally installed in the 1960s, the 10-inch clay pipe is collapsing, posing risks to the wastewater system. The project will replace approximately 600 linear feet of 10-inch sewer line and 1,200 linear feet of 4-inch service line, along with all necessary appurtenances. The estimated cost of the project is $99,500.00, which will be fully funded by an OWRB REAP grant.

Lori Johnson, chief of the OWRB's Financial Assistance Division, calculated that the grant will save the Authority’s customers $180,100 in principal and interest charges by not having to borrow the project funds.

“Ensuring the long-term functionality of critical infrastructure like wastewater systems is essential for the health and safety of our communities," said Sen. Micheal Bergstrom, R-Adair. "This project will not only repair and enhance the infrastructure at Adair Public Schools but will help strengthen our local infrastructure overall. I appreciate all those at the Adair Municipal Authority and Oklahoma Water Resources Board for their efforts in securing this grant and for prioritizing the well-being of both our community and our schools.”

"Investing in our community’s infrastructure helps ensure long-term growth and sustainability," said Rep. Rusty Cornwell, R-Vinita. "This funding will allow the Adair Municipal Authority to address much-needed wastewater system improvements, benefiting students and residents alike. I appreciate the Oklahoma Water Resources Board and Grand Gateway Economic Development Association for their continued support in strengthening our local communities."

“We are grateful to Senator Micheal Bergstrom and Representative Rusty Cornwell for their continued support of water and wastewater infrastructure funding in Oklahoma,” said Julie Cunningham, OWRB Executive Director.

Since 1983 the Water Resources Board has approved over $7.8 billion in loans and grants for water and wastewater infrastructure improvements throughout Oklahoma.
