Federal employees may apply for unemployment benefits during a federal shutdown; however, if back pay for wages are issued, any unemployment compensation received must be returned in full. Unemployment overpayments may accrue interest until fully repaid. Federal employees who fully separate from employment or return to work during the shutdown must notify OESC.

Oklahoma’s Unemployment Rate Held Steady in January

Oklahoma’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was unchanged at 3.3 percent in January. The U.S. unemployment rate decreased 0.1 percentage point to 4.0 percent in January. Over the year, the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 0.1 percentage point lower than January 2024.
