Federal employees may apply for unemployment benefits during a federal shutdown; however, if back pay for wages are issued, any unemployment compensation received must be returned in full. Unemployment overpayments may accrue interest until fully repaid. Federal employees who fully separate from employment or return to work during the shutdown must notify OESC.

Jobless Rates Down Over the Year for Most Oklahoma Counties in January

In January, Pushmataha County posted Oklahoma’s highest county unemployment rate of 5.7 percent. Love County reported the second-highest rate for the month. Texas County reported the lowest county unemployment rate of 2.0 percent in January. Unemployment rates in January were lower than a year earlier in 56 counties, higher in 13 counties, and unchanged in 8 counties.
