Federal employees may apply for unemployment benefits during a federal shutdown; however, if back pay for wages are issued, any unemployment compensation received must be returned in full. Unemployment overpayments may accrue interest until fully repaid. Federal employees who fully separate from employment or return to work during the shutdown must notify OESC.

Oklahoma’s Unemployment Rate Increased in July

Oklahoma’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased 0.1 percentage point to 3.5 percent in July. The U.S. unemployment rate increased 0.2 percentage point to 4.3 percent in July. Over the year, the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 0.3 percentage point higher than July 2023.
