10th Anniversary: Honoring Trooper Nick Dees

Friday, January 31, 2025

Today marks the 10th anniversary of the tragic night Trooper Nicholas Dees was killed by a distracted driver. At that time, he was investigating a collision on I-40 in Seminole County with Trooper Keith Burch who was also struck and sustained serious injuries.

The lives of so many individuals changed dramatically from the loss of this one life – a life that ended too soon because of the selfish and senseless actions of another person. The impact of that loss is still felt to this day.

For several years, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and Oklahoma Highway Safety Office have conducted a statewide mobilization to stop distracted drivers and educate the public on the dangers and deadly consequences of distracted driving in memory of Trooper Dees. We greatly appreciate the agencies and organizations that took part in this mobilization. Your efforts to keep people safe on our roadways does not go unnoticed.

We invite you to join us as we take a moment to reflect on Trooper Dees today on this milestone anniversary. When you get behind the wheel, be an example to your family and friends by putting your phone and other distractions away. Thank you and stay safe!
