Improving driver behavior through awareness, education & enforcement
Most motor vehicle fatalities in Oklahoma result from driver behaviors, such as impaired driving, speeding, distracted driving and failure to wear a seat belt, among others. The Oklahoma Highway Safety Office (OHSO) aims to address these behaviors through awareness, education and strict enforcement of traffic safety laws, ultimately striving to decrease the frequency and severity of crashes and fatalities.
By making federal funds from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) available to state and local entities, OHSO develops and supports programs that help:
- Enforce traffic laws
- Educate the public on traffic safety
- Provide varied, effective strategies to reduce fatalities, injuries and economic loss
