Current projects and supplier needs

Commitment to early literacy:
The Oklahoma State Department of Education is committed to improving literacy outcomes for all students. Our comprehensive literacy plan is focused on providing teachers with evidence-based resources, and professional development based on the science of reading. This includes a focus on a multi-tiered system of supports, the promotion of evidence-based interventions, leadership training, partnerships with families and communities, instructional coaching, online supplemental reading support for students, embedding effective literacy practices in all grades, and programs to support literacy beyond the third grade.

Solutions to teacher shortages:
Provide solutions aimed at increasing the number of teachers in the classroom, retaining existing teachers, recruiting more teacher candidates into alternative settings, and offering teacher accreditation and certifications outside the traditional higher education route.

Professional development training:
Need external entities to provide professional development in required school compliance courses and quality of instruction through leveraging our state's best and brightest teachers.

Charter authorization oversight and support:
Seeking suppliers to support and improve oversight of charter schools, provide them with greater services, increase transparency and highlight effective practices for replication.

System replacement and data migration:
Replace the state's student information system with a modern database to increase transparency and quality of publicly available data and to serve as the central repository for student data.
