State of Teaching in Oklahoma Dashboard

Oklahoma’s teaching workforce has undergone notable changes over the past decade. Districts have experienced staffing pressures, shifts in educator preparation enrollment, and ongoing attrition. In response, Oklahoma has expanded the use of non-standard certifications, enabling individuals to serve in classrooms while completing or without traditional pedagogical preparation.

While these pathways have helped districts address vacancies in the short term, they have also increased the number of teachers entering classrooms through non-traditional routes. State data indicate that teachers entering without full preparation are less likely to remain in the profession over time, contributing to workforce turnover.

Despite these shifts, statewide understanding of workforce trends has remained fragmented. Data exist across multiple systems, definitions vary, and no single source provides a consistent longitudinal view of who is entering the profession, who is remaining, and how certification pathways have changed over time.

This dashboard provides a statewide overview of Oklahoma’s teacher workforce, presenting trends, patterns, and historical shifts in a clear and accessible format for policymakers, districts, and partners.
