Paying It Forward: S&B’s Burger Joint to donate a percentage of sales to support ODMHSAS special initiatives
Oklahoma City – S&B’s Burger joint is “paying it forward” by helping to raise money to support special programs by the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services. On October 28, 2014, the local restaurant is donating a portion of all sales at their 20 NW 9th Street location to assist the agency with non-publicly funded initiatives such as employee education and awareness, support services and development activities. $3.6 MILLION GRANT TO HELP HOMELESS VETERANS, OTHERS WITH BEHAVIORAL HEALTH DISORDERS OBTAIN PERMANENT HOUSING
The Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (ODMHSAS) has received a three year, $3.6 million federal grant to help homeless veterans and chronically homeless non-veterans with behavioral health issues find and maintain permanent, safe housing. Read more...

Champions of Health Nominations Now Open
It is time once again to start the search for Oklahoma’s Health Champions. Nominations for the 11th annual Champions of Health awards are now open through May 30. Health champions are individuals and organizations that are making an impact on the health of Oklahomans. The Champions of Health awards recognize their efforts and provide funding to help further their work. Nominations may be mailed or submitted online through May 30. There is no cost to enter. The nomination categories include: Champion of Children’s Health, Champion of Senior Health, Champion of the Uninsured, Community Health Champion and Corporate Health Champion. Details and requirements for nominations can be found on championsofhealth.org. Nonprofit winners in select categories will receive a $5,000 grant to their organization or program, and will be considered for the highest honor, the Dr. Rodney L. Huey Memorial Champion of Oklahoma Health Award. This recipient will receive a $15,000 grant. Read more...

ODMHSAS, Oklahoma Emergency Management and The Oklahoman’s Newspapers in Education program have partnered to create Keeping Oklahoma Strong, a resource guide for parents, educators and others in the community coping with Oklahoma’s storm season. In addition, individuals and families seeking assistance, as a result of last Summer’s storms, can contact the ODMHSAS OKStrong program during regular business hours at 405-703-0368. The program provides behavioral health services and links to appropriate care. You may also call 211 for 24-hour support with finding local treatment providers. Download the resource guide
