The Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (ODMHSAS) is inviting Oklahomans to take part in NAMIWalks Oklahoma 2026, a statewide event supporting mental health awareness and free community-based services.
The free, family-friendly event will be held Saturday, May 16 at Scissortail Park, Lower Park, in Oklahoma City. Vendor booths open at 8:30 a.m., and the 5K walk begins at 9:30 a.m. Participants of all ages are encouraged to attend and walk at their own pace.
“NAMIWalks brings people together in a powerful way,” said NAMIWalks Oklahoma Executive Director Lorna Palmer. “It’s not just about raising awareness, it’s about building connection, reducing stigma and reminding people they are not alone.”
NAMI Oklahoma provides education, advocacy and support at no cost to individuals and families across the state, including those navigating depression, anxiety, trauma and serious mental illness. Funds raised through NAMIWalks help sustain these programs and expand access to care in communities statewide.
“Access to care is only part of the solution,” said Tony Stelter, ODMHSAS chief of facilities. “People need to know where to go and that someone will meet them there. That’s what NAMIWalks helps make visible.”
Ways to participate include:
- Register to walk or start a team
- Invite friends, family or coworkers to participate
- Register your pet to walk
- Join the ODMHSAS team
