Jim Taliaferro Community Mental Health Center Marks 50 Years of Service to Southwestern Oklahoma

Tuesday, April 01, 2025

For half a century, the Jim Taliaferro Community Mental Health Center (JTC) has been a cornerstone of mental health care for individuals in Southwestern Oklahoma, offering comprehensive support while allowing patients to remain connected to their communities. Since opening its doors in 1975, JTC has continuously expanded its services, breaking down barriers to care and advocating for mental well-being across the region.

“We are incredibly proud of the impact we’ve made, but our work is far from over,” said Terri Lee, Executive Director of JTCMHC. “We remain committed to pioneering innovative behavioral health services and ensuring that the mental health needs of Southwestern Oklahoma are met for many more years to come.”

JTC has long been at the forefront of community-based mental health care, working closely with schools, healthcare providers, and other agencies to promote quality of life and emotional well-being for all. Named in honor of Senator Jim Taliaferro, a dedicated advocate for public service, the center upholds its legacy of compassion, dignity and integrity.

“The Jim Taliaferro Community Mental Health Center has long been a leader in breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health and advocating for greater access to care,” said Commissioner Allie Friesen. “Its 50-year legacy reflects the strength and resilience of both the center and the community it serves. We look forward to its continued role as a pillar of support for all.”

To commemorate this significant milestone, JTCMHC is expected to host a private celebration later this year to honor its rich legacy and recognize its dedicated employees who have helped the center thrive and grow over the years.
