Northwest Center for Behavioral Health will open an adult behavioral health urgent care center (URC) Wednesday, Oct. 19, at its Garfield County outpatient facility in Enid, 702 N. Grand.
The Garfield County URC is the first of three such facilities NCBH will open within the next two years. Others are planned for Woodward County and Texas County.
The six-person URC is meant for behavioral health care up to 24 hours and for those 18 and older. Its primary purpose is to avert behavioral health crisis by connecting people to medication, resources and appropriate treatment services, whether outpatient or residential.
“Our goal is to provide immediate access to needed care,” said NCBH Executive Director Autumn Nickelson. “We are working to meet the needs of northwest Oklahoma and the community, and the URC is an important addition to offering a full spectrum of care. We have seen increased instances of depression and anxiety, and view this as a tool to intervene sooner and link people to appropriate services here in the community.”
Nickelson said NCBH has been working with local law enforcement and other members of the mental health community to create awareness about the upcoming opening of the URC.
“For those needing immediate behavioral health assistance, whether it’s mental health or substance use, we can provide a safe, calm place for up to 24 hours,” Nickelson said. “After that, we can make sure they receive ongoing care with our outpatient services either in Enid or other nearby services. In most cases, hospitalization isn’t needed.”
NCBH offers an array of mental health and addiction treatment options throughout northwest Oklahoma. The Certified Community Behavioral Health Center is part of a statewide network of services operated by the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.
