Goals and Achievements

ODMHSAS assesses the Strategic Plan for measurable outcomes to help identify statewide progress for Oklahomans we serve. Below is our progress on current goals as well as an archive of previous years that showcase the agency's impact statewide.

Medication Assisted Treatment is an evidence-based practice used to treat substance use disorders as well as sustain recovery and prevent overdose. Increasing MAT across Oklahoma is an integral part of our goal to reduce overall substance use.

Medicaid expansion has made it possible for many Oklahomans to now have access to mental health and substance abuse treatment. Enrolling newly eligible Oklahomans in Medicaid is an integral part of our goal to reduce overall substance use.

The ODMHSAS coordinated and collaborated with the Oklahoma Health Care Authority to submit and implement the IMD waiver for serious mental illness and substance use disorder. Implementing the IMD Waiver is an integral part of our goal to reduce overall substance use.

Providing housing for those in recovery is essential to their success. Certifying additional recovery residences across Oklahoma is an integral part of our goal to reduce overall substance use.

The ODMHSAS continues to provide mental health support and education to first responders. Partnering with groups like Warrior's Rest Foundation is an integral part of our goal to become top ten state in lowest number of suicide deaths.

The ODMHSAS offers training and support to Oklahoma schools in a number of evidence-based suicide prevention practices, including training to identify and assist students in distress with appropriate referral. Preparing our teachers and school staff to better serve their students is an integral part of our goal to become top ten state in lowest number of suicide deaths.

Oklahoma students can be at-risk of behavorial issues in the classroom. Equipping school districts to prevent and treat these issues using evidence-based practices like MTSS is an integral part of our goal to become top ten state in lowest number of suicide deaths.

The ODMHSAS implemented a regionally-based alternative transportation service throughout Oklahoma in partnership with local transportation vendors. The result of this change is assisting Oklahoma toward a person-centered approach to treatment and help de-stigmatize mental health and addiction disorders. A Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS) is a person in recovery from a mental illness and/or substance abuse disorder who has been trained to work with others on their road to recovery. Expanding available PRSS tracks is an integral part of our goal to become top ten state in lowest number of suicide deaths.

The ODMHSAS worked in partnership with OSDH to reach families and caregivers with resources with the Family Field Guide campaign. Sharing resources and providing outreach to at-risk populations is an integral part of our goal to become top ten state in lowest number of suicide deaths.

Urgent Recovery Centers will increase accessibility to the right services for Oklahomans experiencing a mental health crisis. Opening additional Urgent Recovery Centers is an integral part of our goal to become top ten state in lowest number of suicide deaths.

988 will provide an easy to remember, no-wrong-door mental health and addiction helpline for the entire state of Oklahoma. 988 will replace the Suicide Prevention Lifeline and is an integral part of our goal to become top ten state in lowest number of suicide deaths.

More than 11,000 law enforcement officers are now equipped with tablets that have 24/7 access to a licensed mental health professional. Having this technology available for crisis calls is an integral part of our goal to become top ten state in lowest number of suicide deaths.

Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training is evidenced-based and proven to help de-escalate crisis situations. Training additional law enforcement officers in CIT is an integral part of our goal to become top ten state in lowest number of suicide deaths.

Obesity can have a negative affect on both our physical and mental health. Establishing a BMI data collection protocol for children and youth served within certified community behavioral health centers (CCBHCs) is an integral part of our goal to reduce childhood obesity.

People with a severe mental illness have a greater risk of developing type 2 diabetes than those without a severe mental illness. Integrating diabetes prevention programming within certified community behavioral health centers (CCBHCs) is an integral part of our goal to reduce childhood obesity.

A wellness coach is an individual who is designated to collaborate with others to identify their personal strengths and goals within the eight dimensions of wellness (spiritual, occupational, intellectual, social, physical, environmental, financial, and emotional). Credentialing additional wellness coaches in the community is an integral part of our goal to reduce childhood obesity.
