Shape Your Future Offers Tips To Move More and Eat Healthy in October
OKLAHOMA CITY — Shape Your Future, a program of the Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET), is offering resources to families, schools and communities to get active together this October. Two important days to celebrate include National Child Health Day on Oct. 7 and National Walk & Roll to School Day on Oct. 9.
“Actively supporting families and children in making healthy choices – like getting physical activity or eating fruits and vegetables -- builds a stronger future for Oklahoma,” said Julie Bisbee, TSET Executive Director. “These events are a great chance to show how we can all work together to support healthy habits that children can carry into adulthood.”
In Oklahoma, one in three kids ages 10-17 are considered overweight or obese. This can lead to serious health problems like diabetes and heart disease. By moving more and eating healthy, parents can teach healthy habits and prevent these issues from affecting kids as they grow.
How to Celebrate National Child Health Day:
• Move together. Kids need 60 minutes of physical activity daily, while adults should get 30 minutes. Visit ShapeYourFutureOK.com for a list of family-friendly ways to get moving!
• Cook together. Involve kids in making a healthy meal. Go to the Shape Your Future website and search for easy, tasty recipes like BBQ Pulled Chicken Sliders, Sheet Pan Fajitas and Burrito Boats. A new and FREE feature allows visitors to save favorite recipes and make a grocery list for the week!
