"Oklahoma TSET: Keeping the Promise for Health"
In 2000, Oklahoma voters made a momentous decision, a decision that would change the health of generations to come.
Oklahoma TSET: Keeping the Promise for Health tells the story of how the Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust was created, born from the vision of state leaders and voters who were willing to invest in a long-term solution to improve Oklahoma's health status, without regard to partisan politics.
After the landmark 1998 Master Settlement Agreement between the tobacco industry and 46 states, Oklahoma was the first and only state to establish a constitutionally protected trust fund to ensure that the majority of the settlement payments would be invested to generate earnings that would be used to improve health.
TSET continues to fight Oklahoma's two leading causes of death - cancer and cardiovascular disease - by promoting healthy eating, physical activity and tobacco free lifestyles.
