Recommending Physicians
Osteopathic physicians that choose to recommend medical marijuana have a duty to review their duties and obligations as the treating physician.
Below are six (6) steps that are required of each physician recommending the use of cannabis in medical treatment. These requirements should be documented in the record.
Step 1: Establish Care Face-to-Face
Step 2: Confirmation of Medical Qualifying Condition or Diagnosis
Step 3: Detailed Medical Record and Documentation
Step 4: Assessment of Risk Factors and Informed Consent
Step 5: Patient Follow-up
Step 6: Monitoring of Ongoing Obligations
